...With a Little Help

I just started working with a new intern a few days ago, Samie Todd. Samie and I met at the VCU Handcrafted Entrepreneurship Symposium and she emailed me a few weeks later asking about a possible internship. Between starting with her and contemplating my ten years at work, I began to think about all the assistants, interns, and friends I've worked with over the years. All of these individuals' help proved to be invaluable, some working with me for months, others as semester interns, and others just helping me for a few days to get me through a tough spot. It's a challenge to manage and delegate simply because it's another way of thinking and hard to do when under pressure, which was often the case when I sought help. But, it's a good challenge and gave me an opportunity to work alongside some great 'smiths and people. I really enjoyed working with each of them and I still can't thank them enough.

seattle revisited

i lived in seattle for about 7 years before returning to the east coast nearly a year and a half ago. since this was my first trip back, it was packed with old friends and good coffee. today i ventured to the industrial area to visit the HQ of the amazing clothing company prairie underground. (the above picture was taken nearby - i just couldn't resist that sign!) i got to meet the duo behind the work, devora and camilla, and picked up a few pieces for myself including this incredible jacket.
i also spent a lot of time looking at jewelry in shops and galleries around the city like facere jewelry art. the following image is a brooch by seth papac, one of the many wonderful jewelers represented there.
my trunk show at velouria was fantastic. this shop is by far one of my favorites and i absolutely love working with the owner and clothing designer, tes de luna. it's always such a treat to have a trunk show at velouria!
i am off to san francisco. my rare device show is this saturday, 12-4.

it's saturday, the last day of the SNAG conference. so much has happened! it's been a great couple of days, but i am ready to go home. it's going to take me a bit to process everything, so i thought i would break it up into segments over the next week. i can say right now that the best part has been spending time with my faraway jewelry friends that i don't get to see that often.

i did not expect to get so much quality time with them...
