It's Been 10 Years, Part 5

Paused Sentiment and Remembering Earrings, sale price $76.50

I began my Etsy shop, AmyTavernJewelry, in 2009 and I have enjoyed being a part of that awesome community. It's a fun and accessible way to connect with other my customers and other artists. I've been debating whether or not to close the shop once grad school begins and, although I haven't come to a definitive conclusion, I have decided to close the shop for now at the end of this month. I might reopen around the holidays, but that remains uncertain. So, to celebrate my 10 years, mark my next chapter, and say thanks to all of you for your constant support, I'm having a sale starting tomorrow. Everything will be 25% off, except sale items which will be an additional 10% off.  Everything pictured is in stock and orders will be shipped quickly. I am offering a limited selection at this time, but there are lots of lovely items in the mix and a few nice sale pieces. I will add a few one-of-a-kind necklaces and brooches, too. My Little Shop

My Etsy shop is open and so ready for you to visit. Etsy has added some great new features to the "About" section including a place for extended artist information and studio photos. I've added more written text about me and a few pictures of my sweet Lake Street Studio. I'm very pleased with the new features, more ways to share what I do with all of you. Sand and Sky

Sand and Sky Earrings on sale for $150

I've been looking at my pictures of Iceland as I prepare myself for my third trip and the one I posted below is among my favorites. It's a beach in South Iceland with dark mountains in the distance. I spent some time on that beach one afternoon and remember the scene before me quite vividly. With the Atlantic Ocean on my right, I was surrounded by velvety-rich, black sand and expansive, variable gray sky above. Those mountains loomed a few miles away, wrapped in a layer of mist. My latest Regal Graffiti Collection piece combines two colors from that moment in one graceful earring with a narrow silhouette and subtle surface texture. I designed them with Holiday parties and more festive occasions in mind, too. If there's a pairing you're interested in, feel free to send me an email with your color combination request.

Perspective

Perspective Line Drawing Pendant on sale for $112.50

I was playing around with some Line Drawing circles and arcs the other day, trying to find the right balance for a new pendant. I have designed new work like this for years: working with multiple parts at my bench, holding them up, moving them around, taking away, adding…until something simply clicks and it feels right. That's exactly what happened with this new Perspective Line Drawing Pendant--two circles and two arcs form a multi-dimensional, sculptural pendant with casual structure.

Ghost Drawings - My Line Drawings in new bright and shiny silver

Every once in awhile I get a request for my Line Drawing Earrings in bright and shiny silver, instead of the original oxidized patina. Then recently, one of my galleries requested a set of basic Line Drawing earrings in this lighter version to complement the original styles they currently have. Now I bring these bright and shiny, whisper-light versions to you. The shiny surface is sparkling and reflective and just adds to the barely-there feeling. Incredibly wearable, minimal, and elegant, these earrings are perfect for every day.

Spoon Earrings

Spoon Pendant on sale for $54

In the recent past, I've made abstract spoons for a few sculptural one-of-a-kind necklaces and I liked the form so much I decided to create miniature versions. These little spoons measure about 1 1/2" long and are composed of a teardrop and an angular wall to represent the handle and shallow bowl of a traditionally designed spoon. Spoons can symbolize different things and to me they reference friendship, generosity and the sharing that naturally happens between good friends. My Spoon Pendant and Spoon Earrings are on sale for $54 each.

Iceland on My Mind

Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned I would be sharing some big news with you in the coming weeks? Well, I have news to share today, and new work that complements it. I'm heading back to Iceland in about three weeks! I will be showing "In Between" for two months at the Wind and Weather Gallery in Reykjavik and it opens January 1. Then I head to Blönduós in Northwest Iceland to a residency at Textílsetur where I will be spending the month stitching a black version of "Island of 14,264 Days," an idea I had when I was at the Nes Artist Residency in 2013. Then for the month of February, I will head back to Reykjavík for another month at SÍM where I will be developing new work for my next exhibition. In total, I will be in Iceland for just over two months and I am counting the days until I climb aboard that Icelandair jet. I'll fill you in on the details soon.
