Guest Star #72...Christiane Kohne

Today's Guest Star,  Christiane Kohne, hails from Germany. When I first found her work I wasn't sure what the materials were (her website is in German), but was curious to find out. Luckily I found English captions on Klimt02 and confirmed what she has so cleverly used: artificial flowers! For some pieces, she cuts up the stems and binds them together with wire, while for others she pieces and layers lots of petals of one color together. I really love this use of the unexpected and the abstract compositions that result.

Be sure to check out her wonderful drawings, too.

Thanks for reading.

P.S. I just discovered Google translate

news and updates

i recently had my klimt02 page updated with some new images and information. i changed my portrait, too. the last one was embarrassingly large. i think the new one is much better. you can view the page here. i am also a new jewelry artist on object fetish, an online jewelry gallery. when i was invited to be on the site i spent some time getting to know the other artists and site features. i was happy to find lots familiar names and several friends including sarah loertscher, aran galligan, geoff giles, and arthur hash. i know i will spend more time there over the next couple if weeks getting to know the artists that are new to me. (i see a great resource for guest star friday...) you can view that page here.

i also added some new studio shots to my flickr page. these pictures were taken when i first started painting the space. this week i will be painting the windows and the entryway door. i will be adding more pictures soon once the project is complete.

finally, i started adding model pictures to my website shop. you'll find them in the preface collection. more coming...
thanks for reading.

guest star friday #31...beate eismann

today's guest star is beate eismann. i was reminded of beate earlier today as i was reviewing adorn: new jewellery (ed. amanda mansell.) i have seen her work before and liked it very much but today it really caught my eye. i love her linear designs and constructions. after visiting her website i discovered her yellow pieces and, as you may know from previous posts, i'm really into the color yellow. her paper pieces with drawings were also of particular interest to me. there is something so appealing about little abstract drawings like this. beate's work is the kind of stuff that makes me want to drop what i'm doing and make something.

there is a wonderful embroidered brooch on klimt02 that cannot be downloaded so here's a link.

thanks for reading.

bon voyage...

i leave for greece tomorrow! i just wanted to write about a few things before i go...

item of the week
is now on hold until i return. i'll start that up again on june 10.

there will also be no guest-star friday posts until i return, unless i can get to a computer. i will try to blog while i'm away, but it all depends on internet availability. please do check back now and again, though! i will resume guest-star friday on june 13.

my studio and office are closed pretty much as soon as i post this entry. you are welcome to visit my site and place orders while i am away, but i will not be able to fill the orders until after i return. thanks for your patience! (i will be gone from may 6-june 1.)

my klimt02 page is now live. please check it out and while you are there, visit some of the other jewelers' pages. there are so many incredible artists to see!

i have a brand new shop that i am very excited about - artstream in rochester, nh. artstream offers a gallery and exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists, art classes, and media designs services.

...and, finally, here are a few more greek jewelers i've found while researching contemporary greek jewelry.

rallou katsari
sonai riz
mania lyrintzi
