The Sales are Coming!

My Etsy Holiday Sale begins next Monday, November 25! Everything will be 25% off and shipping is free to those in the U.S. Due to my move, this year's sale is short--it ends Saturday, November 30. I wish it could be longer, but my move is not just across town, as you know…

My Etsy shop name is AmyTavernJewelry

Or, if you are local, perhaps you would like to stop by the studio on Saturday, November 30 and pick out some things in person? My studiomate, Beth Schaible (Quill & Arrow Press), and I will be hosting a sale that day from 9-3. Beth makes beautiful letterpress stationary and leather books, among other lovely things. We will both have lots on hand and would love to say hello. Our studio is located at 178A Westwood Place in Asheville, NC. Just look for the "7 Ton" sign on the front door.

New Studio

I moved into a new studio space at 7 Ton Letterpress Collective in Asheville. 7 Ton includes my friends Beth Schaible, Ele Annand, Kelly Kelbel, and Bridget Elmer, all letterpress printmakers. My goal is to eventually have my own studio because I prefer working alone, but at this point in my transition into "real" life I know affording my own space is impossible. In the meantime I get to share a great studio with some wonderful people and look forward to making my work alongside them. Right now I have some of my things here--the hand tools I took to Belgium, my torch, my bench while the majority of my tools are still in storage. I'm moving all of that and all my apartment stuff in early November. I really can't wait to get settled in!

Auction in Two Parts, Part 2

Here are some more pictures form auction weekend, some of which were taken by my friend, Beth Schaible of Quill and Arrow Press. (Please be sure to check out her fantastic books and letterpress prints!) She also made the collage of images below, which I just love. Beth and my friend, Pili, helped me during the resident event and I am grateful to both of them--Coffee at the Barns gets very, very busy. Another highlight was the wonderful talk former core fellow, Wes Stitt, gave before the special "Fund-a-Need" for new core student housing. You can read more about the auction on the Penland blog.

Finally, I want to mention the flowers the residents get every year for our studios. The flowers all come from the gardens and fields around Penland. I was very excited to get a green bouquet this year.

tiny gallery!

the tiny gallery opened its doors yesterday for the the first time. the event was really fun and i am so happy i was a part of it. the gallery is totally portable and super easy to install - it's made of 6 salvaged doors that are hinged together. the 6 participating artists who each got a door to display their work made incredible pieces and everything looked wonderful together. we had a great time installing the show in the morning, too - we each took our turn because there really wasn't room inside for more than one person to install at a time. we helped each other and the camaraderie was heartwarming. i will post lots of pics on flickr of the series i made just for the show as well as images of all the participants setting up and their individual work. i'll blog about my own work next week.

and me...
...more later.

go amy go

my friend, beth schaible, gave me this lovely letterpress card yesterday. it made me feel really good...yesterday was the last day for my collections. i spent the day working in my studio filling final mail orders and then later in the evening i got a bunch more. but, now it's done. my shop is gone from my website and my etsy and supermarket shops have been cleared. you will also see some other changes to my website - it's cleaner, simpler, and feels fresh. i have also made a few changes to my blog. now you can find a complete list of the blogs i read and all my favorite jewelry and art/design websites and links at my new delicious site. (delicious is for social bookmarking and is a fantastic way to find websites you haven't seen before and save/share sites you love.) i am not quite finished with my import and tagging, but probably by the end of today.

orion

here's a custom pin with the constellation orion. i made it for one of my penland friends, beth schaible, who is giving it to her father for christmas - she and her dad have a sentimental thing for orion. she asked me to combine the constellation with my borderlines-style pins. i love how it turned out and i hope her dad loves it, too.
